Room set photography allows brands to show their products in an authentic environment. Our end-to-end service, from set design and build to final delivery, is designed to support you through the process. Here’s a quick explanation of each step of commissioning your next photography set.
Briefing For A Photography Set
The set building process always begins with a detailed brief. This is where your ideas, aims, and vision for the project are communicated to the studio. The most important aspect of your brief is the details of the construction needed. This includes the number of room sets you require, the size of the sets, and whether you want a living room, dining room, bathroom, kitchen or other.
The overall look you want to achieve is useful at this stage as we can start to brief the stylist (e.g. modern, rustic, minimalist). Sharing a mood board, or collaborating on one with us, is helpful here. A mood board provides visual direction on colours, textures, and the overall tone, helping everyone to be on the same page.
It's helpful for us to know the purpose of the final images, as we may be able to make some recommendations. This could include website hero banners, ecommerce images, social media campaigns, print catalogues.
Our Production Managers work with you to turn your brief into a plan of action. This collaborative approach ensures that your requirements and expectations are clear from day one.
Photography Set Build Design
Once the mood board is established, our team takes over to create an outline for your studio set. We develop detailed sketches and scale drawings of your photography sets. These plans include specific measurements, window and door placements, wall heights, and flooring choices. We'll collaborate with a stylist to recommend props that match your product's aesthetic.
Set design and build often uses clever solutions to maximize impact and manage budgets. Floating walls and staircases can be easily moved to adapt the set, so too can kitchen units and islands.
We’ll work with you to select specific colours and textures. To achieve the desired finish, we use vinyl wraps on surfaces. We’ll help you through choices that are both high-quality on camera and cost-effective. For example, we use MDF as a building material, coating this with vinyl wraps or paint to reduce costs.
The Set Build
With a set design approved, our in-house set builders get to work in our dedicated set build photography studio.
Having a full-time, skilled set building team on-site means we handle everything from basic joinery and tiling to complex scenic painting. Our large on-site workshop is fully equipped to handle projects of any scale. We've created everything from serene, high-end spa spaces, such as our work for Grahame Gardner, to entire outdoor scenes indoors which we created for Mamas & Papas - it's always worth asking if your concept is possible.

Mamas & Papas
In a challenging brief for Mamas & Papas, our team transformed an entire studio into a winter wonderland, complete with a full-size log cabin, a wooden bridge over a stream, and fifteen 20ft Christmas trees.
Styling A Photography Set
Styling is where the photography set gains its character and realism, making the room set image feel authentic and aspirational. Our stylists use your mood board as their guide, sourcing the perfect props and furniture. This elevates the final scene without distracting attention away from your product. We have our very own prop warehouse that provides plenty of choice for a range of styles.
Our set builders and stylists remain on set throughout the shoot to assist with styling tweaks to propping, keeping the shoot running smoothly. This allows you some creative license whilst on set, however, we recommend that you don’t stray too far from the original set styling as it can slow down the progress of the photographer.

Photography, Retouch, And Delivery Of Assets
Once the studio set is built and styled with your product, our photographers will set up their lighting for the shoot. For room set photography, this reflects a natural scene by replicating daylight coming through windows and across the set. A cosy low light is another option, but this lends itself to a lifestyle feel as opposed to showing your product in detail.
Our photographers work closely with the stylist and client to capture the shots defined in the brief, ensuring optimal lighting and composition. Models can bring personality to the images. The photographer will work with models on achieving natural poses and expressions within the room set.
The final touches are completed by our Post Production team. They remove distracting imperfections, colour match products, and fill in window views. Your final, high-resolution assets are delivered via our secure client portal, ready for you to use in your marketing.
