The Brief
Roots is a UK-based plant seller passionate about the environment and traditional growing methods. They work with growers across the UK to give their customers the best quality plants available.
Roots was launching the first of four gift products, this time focussing on eight plants. With a further three shoots in the calendar, each focussing on a different collection of plants throughout the year, launching during the season that the plants come into bloom.
With this product being of such high quality, they needed a photoshoot that reflected luxury and would bring out the emotion associated with receiving a gift on your doorstep.
Due to the nature of the brief – shooting plants throughout the seasons – we decided to bring the outside in so that we could control the weather and keep the shoots consistent throughout the year.
The Set Build
With a detailed brief from Katy, the Production Manager, our expert set building team built a front wall of Cotswold-style house, allowing us to give the feeling of a gift being delivered on a doorstep.
The set was built to provide a sense of luxury and texture. It needed to feel like you were outside, with the garden elements feeling like stone you could almost touch. Our Set Builders did an amazing job at adding layers and texture to the entrance so that it looked like old Cotswold stone.
The Shoot

The Photographer, Annie, created a softer, natural light to mimic the effect of the plants being delivered on a beautiful soft summer morning. The shoot lasted a full day, photographing eight plants, their gift box and their labels.
The biggest challenge was to ensure the plants, packaging and labels were all clear and visible. As some of the packaging was considerably larger than the plants that they contained, it took some clever placement and setting from Charlie, the Stylist, and Annie to make sure that the beautiful plants were always the star of the show.
Post-Production
The Post-Production team helped to enhance the soft light and summer morning feel of the images. They also ensured colour accuracy and made sure that the plants all looked their best.
The team at Prodoto are easy to work with and understood the brief immediately. They really did bring the outside in with their amazing sets, which helps us to show off our products across our website.
