The Client
Rangemaster is a household name in Britain. The heritage brand made the world's first range cooker in 1830. Based in Royal Leamington Spa, the company continues to design and manufacture their range cookers. Rangemaster cookers are at the heart of so many homes, helping to create memorable family moments - this is what we wanted to capture for their shoot.
The Brief
Aga Rangemaster wanted new photography for their Estel Deluxe Rangemaster cooker. This shoot was all about authentic photography that would express family and home life revolving around a Rangemaster.
The images were to be full of life and character to be relatable to Rangemaster customers. Above all, Rangemaster wanted premium photography to reflect their premium product. Every part of the cookers needed to be shown in beautiful detail, along with rich lifestyle photography that told the brand story.
Selecting Models
Our Production Manager Laura looked after this shoot, and helped to select three models for the shoot, with the aim of creating several family scenes. The models were booked from Face Model Agency, and included Kate Hemming, Jack Richmond, and child model, Violet Marsden.
We had to plan the shoot carefully to allow sufficient breaks for 5-year-old Violet. This meant we also had to be incredibly efficient on set to make the most of the time windows in which Violet was available.
Set Build & Styling
We built an extremely large set for the L-shaped layout of the contemporary styled kitchen. This included a kitchen island which allowed for great angles to capture interaction between the three models, images of cooked food, recipe-making, and fun family moments. When not crucial to the scenes, the kitchen island could be removed, opening up space for our team to take photos of the oven from various angles.
A large window was built into the set to allow us to create the look of natural light flooding the kitchen. This resulted in a light and airy feel to images, complimenting the muted tones which contrasted against the deep colours of the products. Lee, our head of set build, included wonderful details into the set such as skylights, pendant lights, herringbone flooring, marble effect worktops, and classic shaker style ivory kitchen units.
Charlie Sherry was brought in to style the set for us, along with Ben Broom who styled the food. The set was designed to create an aspirational family kitchen, and care was taken to let the product shine through by not overcrowding the set. The food was chosen and styled to resemble cosy home cooking, whilst showing the capabilities of the Rangemaster. Both stylists worked to create scenes with party décor and Christmas décor to reflect memorable family moments. Ben created food to match such as a traditional Christmas dinner and sharing pizzas.
The Shoot & Behind The Scenes
The shoot featured models on two of the days, and a half day was scheduled for the product only shots.
Our lead photographer Paul worked with Aga throughout the shoot. There was a mix of lifestyle and product focussed images to capture. Paul made sure to create a relaxed atmosphere for the shoot, allowing him to bring the best out of the models, particularly Violet.
Paul took wide shots that captured family moments in the kitchen such as Christmas Dinner being made, prepping for friends arriving for a party, and fun whilst cooking with the kids.
Whilst the wide shots were important for the overall feel of the project, it was also important to showcase the selling points of the Rangemaster ovens. As well as the quality and aesthetics of the oven, Paul got close up to show the capacity and features such as the ‘handyrack’ oven door. This was demonstrated with the food used to style the oven.
Post Production
Our post-production team added in various views through windows of the French doors to echo the seasonal styling of the set. Paul took several exposures of the oven and hob to allow our post-production team to accurately remove distracting reflections, and ensure the colour of the hob could be shown accurately. We made sure to hang on to the product after the shoot to allow us to accurately colour match the final images to the oven.
Final Images
We delivered a mix of portrait and landscape shots for Aga to use across their marketing.
Putting The Images To Use
The selection of images provides Rangemaster with options on where to use them. The lifestyle images work well across Rangemaster's website and social media.
